Chhoker to Surrender: Top Court Rejects Plea in Rs 1500 Crore Money Laundering Case
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea by former Haryana MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker, ordering him to surrender before the authorities by July 12, 2025. Chhoker had sought an extension to the surrender deadline set by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The apex court’s decision came after it refused to entertain Chhoker’s petition challenging the High Court’s order. His legal team subsequently withdrew the petition.
Chhoker, implicated in a massive Rs 1500 crore money laundering case, alleges he was physically assaulted during his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. This claim, however, did not sway the Supreme Court’s judgment.
This case highlights the ongoing battle against financial crimes and the reach of the law, even for influential figures. The developments will be closely watched, particularly given Chhoker’s political background and the scale of the alleged financial irregularities.
