Edited Video Row: FIR Against Punjab Ministers Cheema, Arora
Chandigarh Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Punjab ministers Harpal Cheema and Aman Arora, along with an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) social media handler. The FIR stems from the alleged circulation of a doctored video clip of Punjab Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa.
The manipulated video, according to Bajwa’s complaint, misrepresented his criticism of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. He accused the AAP leadership of a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.
Bajwa submitted evidence supporting his claim of the video’s manipulation to the police. The FIR alleges offences under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code.
This incident highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media to spread misinformation and damage reputations, particularly during politically charged times in Punjab. The case’s outcome will have significant implications for the ongoing political discourse in the state and the use of digital platforms in campaigning.
