Massive Meth Bust Near Myanmar Border: Rs 112 Crore Haul, Suspects Flee
Assam Rifles personnel scored a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking on July 12, 2025. A massive seizure of 3.33 lakh Methamphetamine tablets, estimated to be worth a staggering Rs 112.40 crore, was made near the Mizoram-Myanmar border.
The operation, carried out near the international border, resulted in the interception of a significant drug consignment. However, two individuals transporting the contraband managed to escape back into Myanmar.
The seized Methamphetamine tablets were reportedly destined for Champhai town in Mizoram. The Assam Rifles promptly handed over the evidence to the Mizoram Police for further investigation and prosecution.
This significant drug bust highlights the persistent threat of cross-border narcotics trafficking in the Northeast. The escape of the smugglers underscores the need for enhanced border security and cooperation with neighbouring countries to curb this illicit trade, which fuels crime and addiction across the region.
