Landslide Chaos Cripples Himachal Highway, Hundreds Stranded

A massive landslide near the 4-Mile mark on the crucial Chandigarh-Manali highway has thrown traffic into complete disarray, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded on Saturday, July 12, 2025. This follows an earlier landslide reported near Diyod, further compounding the travel woes.

The Mandi-Pandoh road remains blocked, adding to the disruption. While light vehicles can utilise alternative routes, heavy vehicles are currently halted at Nagchala and Jhiri.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and local authorities are working tirelessly to clear the debris. They anticipate restoring traffic flow on the highway by Sunday, July 13, 2025.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of Himachal Pradesh’s mountainous roads during the monsoon season. The state government needs to urgently review its disaster preparedness plans and invest in robust infrastructure to mitigate the risks posed by recurring landslides and ensure smoother travel for the thousands who rely on these vital arteries.
