Kanha’s Core Zone: 4G Tower Defies NTCA, Gets Green Light

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has cleared the installation of a 4G mobile tower within the core area of Kanha Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh. This decision comes despite initial objections from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

The tower, intended to bolster anti-Naxal operations, will be subject to stringent conditions. These include mandatory decommissioning once the Naxalite threat is neutralized.

The MoEFCC’s approval mandates strict adherence to radiation limits, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Comprehensive environmental safeguards are also a prerequisite.

This controversial move raises questions about balancing national security with the preservation of India’s precious wildlife sanctuaries. The project’s success hinges on meticulous implementation and transparent monitoring to prevent ecological damage and ensure the long-term safety of Kanha’s tiger population. The decision will be closely scrutinized by conservationists and the public alike.
