Ludhiana Matrimonial Scam: Seven Men Duped, Lakhs Lost
A shocking case of fraud has come to light in Ludhiana, Punjab, involving a mother-daughter duo who allegedly defrauded seven men of substantial sums of money. Sukhdarshan Kaur, along with her daughter Harpreet, is accused of orchestrating a sophisticated matrimonial scam.
The accused allegedly used Harpreet’s photograph to lure prospective grooms, promising marriage and subsequent Canadian settlement. This deceitful scheme ensnared seven unsuspecting victims, each paying between 15 and 18 lakhs to secure their supposed future with the family.
The payments, made via bank transfers, were apparently made in good faith, with the victims believing in the promise of marriage and immigration to Canada. However, no weddings took place, and none of the victims received the promised Canadian visas.
Police are investigating the matter thoroughly, examining bank records and gathering statements from the victims. The accused are currently being questioned.
This incident serves as a stark warning about the rising prevalence of online matrimonial scams, highlighting the need for increased caution and verification before entering into such agreements. The scale of the financial loss underscores the urgent need for stronger regulatory measures to protect vulnerable individuals from such exploitation.
