Matrimonial Matrimony Scam: Mother-Son Duo Busted in Canada Migration Racket
A sophisticated Canada migration scam, involving a mother-son duo and their associates, has been busted by authorities. The gang preyed on unsuspecting bachelors, using matrimonial websites to lure victims.
The fraudsters created fake profiles of women supposedly residing in Canada. They then engaged in virtual relationships, culminating in fraudulent “video call marriages.”
Victims were subsequently conned into transferring lakhs of rupees under the pretext of processing immigration documents and marriage-related expenses.
The scam unravelled after one victim discovered a suspicious message, prompting a police investigation. The subsequent probe led to the arrest of the entire gang.
This case highlights the growing menace of online matrimonial scams and underscores the need for increased vigilance among those seeking partners online. The ease with which such scams are perpetrated, especially targeting vulnerable individuals seeking better prospects abroad, demands a stronger regulatory framework and public awareness campaigns.
