Digital Texts in 22 Languages: A New Dawn for Higher Education
The University Grants Commission (UGC), in collaboration with the Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti, is set to launch the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme. This ambitious initiative aims to provide digital textbooks in all 22 scheduled Indian languages for higher education students.
The scheme, a key component of the National Education Policy, will offer a rich repository of translated and original content. This will encompass all academic disciplines, ensuring accessibility for students across the country.
The move is expected to significantly enhance understanding and promote the use of Indian languages in higher education. It represents a major step towards making quality education more inclusive and accessible.
This initiative, launched on July 28, 2025, promises to revolutionise access to higher education, particularly for students from non-English speaking backgrounds. Its success will be crucial in achieving the NEP’s goal of promoting multilingualism and preserving India’s linguistic diversity.
