Langurs Keep Monkeys at Bay: Delhi Metro’s Novel Solution at Bahadurgarh
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has deployed a unique strategy to tackle the persistent monkey menace at its Bahadurgarh stations. Life-sized langur cutouts have been strategically placed, capitalising on the natural predator-prey dynamic to deter the primates.
However, the success of this innovative approach is hampered by the continued defiance of commuters. Despite prominent warnings against feeding the monkeys, many, especially on Tuesdays, disregard the rules, exacerbating the problem.
The DMRC, in tandem with local authorities, is also pursuing a parallel strategy of capturing and relocating the monkeys to more suitable habitats outside the city. This two-pronged approach aims to restore a peaceful and safe environment for commuters.
This ongoing struggle highlights a larger issue of human-wildlife conflict in urban spaces. The irresponsible actions of a few continue to impact the effectiveness of well-intentioned initiatives, underscoring the need for greater public awareness and stricter enforcement of regulations to maintain a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals in Delhi’s expanding urban landscape.
