Punjab Demands Rs 113 Crore from Haryana: BBMB Row Intensifies
Punjab is aggressively pursuing the recovery of Rs 113 crore from Haryana, owed as dues to the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has sharply criticised previous state governments for their alleged inaction, leading to this significant outstanding amount.
Cheema highlighted the negligence in protecting Punjab’s financial interests within the BBMB framework. He underscored the need for a robust and assertive approach to claim what is rightfully due to the state.
Furthermore, the Punjab government is firmly opposing the BBMB’s proposal to deploy Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. The state government expressed complete confidence in the capabilities of the Punjab Police to ensure the security of BBMB installations within the state.
This stand reflects the state’s determination to safeguard its autonomy and maintain control over its security apparatus. The government reiterated its commitment to protecting Punjab’s rights and interests in all matters concerning the BBMB.
This escalating dispute underscores the growing tension between Punjab and Haryana over the sharing of BBMB resources and responsibilities. The outcome will have significant implications for inter-state relations and the equitable distribution of water and power resources in the region.
