20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Ganja-Poppy Smugglers
A Delhi court on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, handed down a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to two drug peddlers, Rammehar and Surender. Each was also fined ₹2.5 lakh.
The duo was found guilty of possessing a substantial quantity of contraband: 72 kg of ganja-patti and 4.5 kg of poppy husk.
Their arrest dates back to 2018. Tragically, a third suspect involved in the case died by suicide during the trial proceedings.
The judgement underscores the courts’ firm stance against the narcotics trade, a persistent threat to India’s youth and national security. The hefty sentence serves as a strong deterrent against such illegal activities. The case highlights the need for continued vigilance and stricter enforcement against drug trafficking networks across the country.
