Mithi River Scam: ED Swoops Down on Mumbai Contractors

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a major crackdown on Thursday, July 31, 2025, raiding eight locations across Mumbai linked to contractors allegedly involved in a massive Mithi River desilting scam.

The raids, part of an ongoing investigation, target contractors accused of submitting fraudulent documents to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

These contractors are suspected of significantly inflating bills for the desilting project, leading to the siphoning off of crores of rupees in public funds.

The ED is meticulously scrutinising financial records and transactions to trace the flow of illicit funds. The scale of the alleged embezzlement is yet to be fully ascertained, but early indications suggest a substantial amount is involved.
