Dhanpal Kanda Reels Under Cloudburst: Apple Orchards, Bridges Crumble
A sudden and intense cloudburst unleashed havoc upon Dhanpal Kanda village on July 31, 2025, triggering flash floods that ravaged the region. The deluge caused significant damage to infrastructure and agricultural lands.
A key bridge connecting the village was completely destroyed, leaving residents stranded and hampering access to essential services. Extensive damage was also reported to apple orchards, a vital source of income for many villagers.
The fury of the storm didn’t stop there. Three smaller bridges and several roads suffered substantial damage, disrupting transportation links within and around Dhanpal Kanda. Landslides triggered by the heavy rainfall also resulted in a power outage in the nearby Khiuncha village.
Remarkably, despite the scale of destruction, no loss of life was reported. A revenue team has been dispatched to the affected area to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage and initiate relief measures.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of Himalayan communities to extreme weather events, underscoring the urgent need for robust infrastructure and disaster preparedness measures to mitigate the impact of future cloudbursts and protect the livelihoods of those affected.
