Karnal Property Tax Bonanza: Rs 15.55 Crore Collected, But Rs 315 Crore Still Due
The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) concluded its property tax collection drive with a final-day surge, raking in Rs 67 lakh on July 31, 2025, the last day of a 10% rebate period. This brought the total tax collection for the year to a significant Rs 15.55 crore.
This figure surpasses last year’s collection by a substantial margin, exceeding the previous year’s Rs 11.40 crore. The impressive increase reflects a positive response to the rebate incentive.
However, a significant challenge remains. Despite the substantial collection, a massive Rs 315 crore in property tax remains outstanding. Of this, a considerable Rs 117 crore is owed by the general public.
The KMC administers property tax for 1,70,758 registered properties within the city. The corporation has warned defaulters that property attachment proceedings may be initiated to recover the outstanding dues.
This substantial outstanding amount highlights the need for improved tax collection mechanisms and greater public awareness regarding property tax obligations. The KMC’s ability to effectively collect these pending taxes will be crucial for funding essential civic infrastructure projects in Karnal.
