Monsoon’s Surprise Downpour Cools Chandigarh, Yellow Alert Issued

Chandigarh woke up to a pleasant surprise on July 31, 2025, as moderate rainfall brought much-needed respite from the summer heat. The unexpected showers, however, also led to waterlogging in several areas, causing traffic disruptions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) responded swiftly, issuing a yellow alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana for the next four days. Residents are advised to remain vigilant.

Temperatures across the region dipped significantly following the downpour, offering welcome relief from the oppressive humidity. The IMD’s forecast suggests continued unsettled weather conditions.

This sudden change in weather patterns highlights the unpredictable nature of the monsoon season. Farmers, particularly, will be keenly watching the rainfall patterns over the coming days, as it will have a significant impact on the kharif harvest.
