Caliphate Plot: NIA Charges Hizb ut-Tahrir Trio
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against three operatives of Hizb ut-Tahrir for allegedly plotting to establish an Islamic Caliphate within India. The accused are alleged to have conspired to overthrow the Indian government through violence.
The NIA alleges the trio sought funding from foreign sources to further their agenda. This included recruiting impressionable youth and attempting to involve the Pakistan Army.
Evidence presented by the NIA includes materials from an exhibition organised by the accused. This exhibition allegedly promoted violent means to achieve their objectives.
The charges filed on August 1, 2025, mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation. This case highlights the persistent threat of radical ideologies aiming to destabilise India’s internal security. The successful prosecution of this case will set a crucial precedent in combating such threats.
