Akalis Lose Kharar Veteran: Gill Joins BJP, Eyes Assembly Seat

Ranjit Gill, a prominent Kharar realtor and former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, has switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His move marks a significant setback for the SAD ahead of the upcoming elections.

Gill, once a close confidante of Sukhbir Singh Badal, expressed dissatisfaction with the SAD’s recent candidate selections for the Kharar Assembly constituency. This discontent fueled his decision to join the BJP.

He had previously contested the Kharar seat unsuccessfully in both the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections while under the SAD banner.

This shift in political loyalties is expected to trigger further realignments within the Kharar political landscape. Gills’s entry into the BJP adds a new dimension to the upcoming electoral battle, potentially impacting the vote share of both the BJP and the SAD.
