Chandigarh’s Infrastructure: High Court Slams Outdated Plan, Demands Third Entry Point
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday, August 1, 2025, sharply criticised Chandigarh’s inadequate infrastructure, particularly its insufficient entry and exit points. The court highlighted the burgeoning foot traffic and resultant congestion as a major concern.
The Chief Justice, in a strong observation, urged the Union Territory (UT) Administration to immediately address the issue by developing a third entry-exit point for the city. This, the court felt, was crucial to ease the current traffic burden.
The court further emphasized the need for a comprehensive amendment to the existing master plan. A change in the current approach to urban planning was deemed essential to accommodate the city’s growing needs.
The High Court’s ruling carries significant weight, underscoring the urgent need for infrastructural upgrades in Chandigarh. Failure to act decisively could lead to further gridlock and hinder the city’s overall development, impacting the daily lives of its residents.
