Trump Urges India to Ditch Russian Oil: MEA Reiterates National Interest

US President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) suggested India halt purchases of Russian oil, praising such a move as “a good step”. His comments followed India’s steadfast assertion of its sovereign right to determine its energy policy based on national interests.

Earlier on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified India’s energy procurement is driven by market forces and national priorities. The MEA also stated it had no knowledge of any Indian oil companies suspending Russian oil imports.
