Neglected Sector-48 amphitheatre awaits its opening act

AMRUT Amphitheater: Sector 48’s Flooded Dream

A grand amphitheater, constructed in Sector 48 under the AMRUT scheme in 2018, remains unused and swamped by rainwater. Seven years and lakhs of rupees later, it sits forlorn, overtaken by weeds.

Residents express deep disappointment at the wasted public funds and the complete lack of maintenance. The structure, intended as a vibrant community space, has never hosted a single event.

The persistent flooding renders the amphitheater unusable, raising serious questions about the project’s planning and execution. Local officials have acknowledged the drainage problems and promised remedial action.

However, the incident highlights a larger concern: the lack of accountability and effective post-project monitoring of crucial infrastructure projects under government schemes. The Sector 48 example serves as a stark reminder of the need for improved oversight to ensure public funds are used judiciously and projects deliver their intended benefits to the community.
