Chandigarh’s Aquatic Paradox: 12 Pools, Zero National Glory?
Chandigarh boasts twelve swimming pools, fostering vibrant local participation in aquatic competitions. The city’s enthusiasm is undeniable, with numerous local events drawing large crowds.
However, this impressive infrastructure hasn’t translated into national-level success. A glaring absence of a dedicated city swimming association further hinders the development of young talent.
Despite a rich history of swimming achievements, Chandigarh currently lacks a strong contingent of professional swimmers capable of competing at the national level. This is a significant concern for the city’s sporting future.
Plans are afoot to construct an Olympic-size swimming pool, a move that could potentially revitalize the city’s aquatic scene. But infrastructure alone won’t suffice. A robust, well-structured association, coupled with dedicated coaching and training programs, is crucial to nurture future champions. The lack of a cohesive strategy risks squandering the city’s considerable potential. The question remains: will Chandigarh rise to its aquatic potential, or will these 12 pools remain underutilised?
