High Court Orders Punjab, Haryana Police to Unmask Corrupt Cops

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 3, 2025, issued a strong directive to the state Director Generals of Police (DGPs) to publicly disclose details of all police officers facing criminal charges while remaining in active service.

This landmark order follows a recent drugs case where Inspector Vijay Kumar’s reinstatement sparked serious concerns. Allegations of false implication and corruption against Kumar and other officers fuelled the court’s intervention.

The court expressed deep unease over the continued employment of officers with pending criminal cases, highlighting a potential erosion of public trust in law enforcement. The lack of transparency, the court argued, hinders accountability and undermines the integrity of the police force.

The High Court’s decision is a significant step towards greater transparency and accountability within the Punjab and Haryana police departments. The public disclosure of this information is expected to not only deter future misconduct but also pave the way for much-needed reforms within the system, addressing a crucial issue impacting public safety and faith in the justice system.
