Airport Road Crackdown: Heavy Vehicles Banned During Peak Hours
A significant traffic restriction will come into effect on Airport Road (PR-7) from August 4, 2025. Heavy vehicles will be banned from plying between the Sector 66/82 junction and the Airport roundabout during peak hours.
The ban will be enforced from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm daily. This move aims to alleviate congestion and improve commute times for the city’s residents.
Exemptions will be granted to emergency vehicles, those transporting essential goods, and government vehicles on urgent duty. Violators will face penalties as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Chandigarh administration has announced the decision, citing increasing traffic volume on Airport Road as the primary reason. The move is expected to have a noticeable impact on commuters, businesses relying on heavy vehicle transport, and the overall traffic flow in the area. Citizens are advised to plan their commutes accordingly.
