Cyber Blackmail: Relative’s Digital Betrayal Lands 28-Year-Old Behind Bars
A 28-year-old man, Prabhat Chaudhary, has been arrested for blackmailing a woman, a distant relative, by sharing her private images and videos on social media. The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint.
Chaudhary, in a bid to evade detection, used multiple social media accounts and the “view once” feature of some platforms. This tactic, however, proved futile as the police were able to trace his activities.
During interrogation, Chaudhary confessed to his crime, admitting to demanding money from the victim in exchange for not further disseminating the compromising material.
The arrest serves as a stark reminder of the growing menace of cybercrime, particularly the exploitation of personal data and the use of technology for blackmail. The ease with which such crimes are perpetrated necessitates increased digital literacy and stringent legal frameworks to protect vulnerable individuals. The case underscores the urgent need for stronger online safety measures and awareness campaigns to prevent such incidents.
