The Punjab Engineering College (PEC) conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree upon Dr. S. Somanath, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on August 4, 2025.

During his acceptance speech, Dr. Somanath paid tribute to the pioneering contributions of Dr. Satish Dhawan, a towering figure in Indian space science. He highlighted Dhawan’s enduring influence on ISRO’s trajectory.

Dr. Somanath emphasised the crucial role of collaboration between academia and industry in fostering technological advancement. He stressed this synergy’s importance for India’s continued progress in space exploration.

The event also saw the unveiling of a plaque commemorating Dr. Dhawan’s invaluable contributions to the nation’s space programme. This act served as a powerful reminder of his legacy.
