Chandigarh Lawyers Stage Protest After Amritsar Advocate’s Murder

Chandigarh’s District Bar Association observed a complete shutdown on Monday, August 4, 2025, to mourn the tragic death of Lakhwinder Singh, a member of the Amritsar Bar Association. Singh was brutally attacked recently, succumbing to his injuries.

The protest, a “no work day,” demonstrated the profound grief and outrage felt by the legal fraternity. The lawyers expressed solidarity with Singh’s family and colleagues.

The association issued a strong statement demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the heinous crime. They emphasized the need for swift justice.

This incident highlights the growing concerns over the safety and security of legal professionals in Punjab. The lack of swift action in similar cases fuels anxieties within the legal community, raising questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in protecting its members. The demand for increased security measures and a stricter approach to violence against lawyers is now gaining momentum across the state.
