Dharamsala & McLeod Ganj Plunged into Darkness After Monsoon Fury
Unseasonal heavy rain lashed Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj on August 5, 2025, triggering widespread power outages. The deluge caused significant damage to the region’s electricity infrastructure.
A major 33KV power line supplying both towns failed after a large tree fell across it near the Pingal nullah. This resulted in a complete power cut across a large area.
The electricity board has deployed repair crews to restore power. However, officials are unable to provide a definitive timeline for the restoration of services.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of the hill station’s power grid to extreme weather events. Authorities must now assess the damage and consider upgrading infrastructure to prevent similar disruptions in the future, especially with the monsoon season still ongoing.
