Himachal’s Green Revolution: Direct Transfers Boost Natural Farming
The Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Department has announced a significant boost to its natural farming initiative. The department directly procured wheat, maize, and raw turmeric from farmers, channeling payments swiftly through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
This move ensures farmers receive timely compensation for their produce, a key element in encouraging sustainable agricultural practices. The government’s commitment is evident in its multi-pronged approach.
Training programs equip farmers with the necessary skills, while subsidies ease the transition to natural farming methods. Furthermore, the successful “Him-Bhog” brand, showcasing natural produce, provides a ready market.
Currently, over 222,893 farmers are actively engaged in natural farming. The state government aims to increase this number by an additional 100,000 farmers in the near future.
This initiative is not merely an agricultural strategy; it’s a vital step towards food security and environmental sustainability in Himachal Pradesh. The success of this program could serve as a model for other states grappling with similar agricultural challenges.
