DRDO Hands Over reins: Industry to take lead on Defence Tech
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is streamlining its operations, shifting focus to cutting-edge technologies and complex systems. This strategic move aims to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
To achieve this, the DRDO has identified 183 systems for development and production by the private sector. This initiative is expected to free up DRDO resources for more advanced research.
Key areas of focus for DRDO’s R&D efforts now include Artificial Intelligence, quantum technologies, and crucial cyber security advancements. These technologies are vital for India’s future defence capabilities.
The DRDO has been allocated a budget of Rs 23,855.61 crore for the financial year 2024-25. This substantial investment underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s defence preparedness.
This strategic shift signals a significant move towards a stronger public-private partnership in the Indian defence sector. It promises to boost indigenous technology development and reduce the nation’s reliance on foreign suppliers, a crucial step towards self-reliance in defence.
