Cabinet Unveils Mega Relief Package: LPG Subsidy, Northeast Boost
The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a substantial financial package encompassing crucial social welfare and infrastructural development initiatives. A significant Rs 30,000 crore has been allocated towards LPG subsidies, providing much-needed relief to households grappling with rising fuel costs.
Simultaneously, Rs 12,060 crore has been earmarked for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), furthering the government’s commitment to clean cooking fuel access.
Further bolstering the Northeast’s development trajectory, the Cabinet sanctioned Rs 4,250 crore for comprehensive development packages in Assam and Tripura. These funds are expected to catalyze growth and improve infrastructure in the region.
In a separate decision, Rs 4,200 crore has been approved for the MERITE scheme, aimed at enhancing technical education infrastructure and skills development in the country’s technical institutions.
This multi-pronged approach reflects the government’s commitment to both immediate socio-economic relief and long-term infrastructural development, particularly in strategically important regions. The impact of these allocations will be keenly observed, especially in the context of upcoming elections and the persistent challenges of inflation and regional disparities.
