Abdullah Denies Hand in J&K Book Ban, Blames Sinha
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah today categorically denied any involvement in the recent ban of 25 books in Jammu and Kashmir. He attributed the decision directly to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration.
The ban, implemented by the Home Department on August 8, 2025, cites concerns that the books promote secessionist ideologies and threaten India’s national integrity.
The move has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, including Peoples Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti, who voiced strong opposition to the censorship.
Police are actively seizing the banned books from bookstores across the region. The crackdown has sparked a debate on freedom of expression in the Union Territory.
This incident highlights the ongoing tension between maintaining national security and upholding fundamental rights, a critical issue demanding careful consideration in the fragile political climate of Jammu and Kashmir.
