Sikh panel rejects amendments to 2014 Gurdwara Act, passes resolution

Gurdwara Body Rejects Haryana’s Sikh Act Amendments

The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) has vehemently rejected proposed amendments to the 2014 Sikh Gurdwara Management Act, put forth by the state government. The HSGMC cited a lack of consultation as a primary reason for its opposition.

The contentious amendments focus on altering the processes for removing members and handling appeals. The HSGMC believes these changes undermine the existing framework and threaten the autonomy of the Gurdwaras.

In response to the government’s move, the HSGMC plans to meet with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to discuss their concerns. A major Sikh Sammelan is also being organised before the upcoming Assembly session to mobilise support.

This decision carries significant implications for the religious and political landscape of Haryana. The upcoming meeting and Sammelan will be crucial in determining the future of these amendments and the ongoing relationship between the HSGMC and the state government. The potential for widespread protests and legal challenges looms large.
