Chowari-Lahru Road: Partial Relief, Looming Danger

The Public Works Department (PWD) has partially restored the vital Chowari-Lahru road, offering some respite to commuters after recent landslides. Light motor vehicles can now navigate the five-kilometre stretch.

However, the threat of further landslides and road sinking persists. Heavy vehicles are still forced to use the longer detour route.

Local residents remain deeply concerned and are demanding permanent solutions to ensure road safety. They have voiced their anxieties over the continued risk.

The PWD has announced plans to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and undertake road metalling work after the monsoon season. This is intended to address the underlying issues causing the road damage.

This partial restoration provides temporary relief, but the long-term vulnerability of the Chowari-Lahru road highlights the urgent need for comprehensive infrastructure improvements in landslide-prone areas across the state. The upcoming monsoon season presents a serious challenge, demanding swift and decisive action from the authorities.
