NGT Slams UP Govt: Ghaziabad Ponds Still Under Siege
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has expressed strong displeasure over the continued encroachment of ponds and water bodies in Ghaziabad. The Tribunal cited its 2021 order mandating the removal of all encroachments.
Despite the NGT’s clear directives, a shocking 231 out of 1,075 ponds remain illegally occupied. This blatant disregard for environmental regulations has drawn the NGT’s ire.
The Tribunal sharply criticized the Uttar Pradesh government’s lack of compliance. A detailed response outlining remedial action is now demanded from the state.
The next hearing in this crucial case is scheduled for October 7. The NGT’s stern stance underscores the urgent need for effective action to protect Ghaziabad’s vital water resources. This inaction not only threatens the environment but also impacts the lives of thousands who depend on these water bodies.
