Delhi University Honours Sri Lankan PM with Honorary Doctorate

The University of Delhi’s Executive Council convened on Friday, September 12, 2025, making several key decisions. A significant announcement was the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.

The council also grappled with the issue of vacant undergraduate seats. A proposal for an open admission process was put forth to fill these remaining positions.

Further initiatives included plans to create new research facilities across the university. Standardised guidelines for PhD courses were also approved, aiming for greater consistency across departments.

These decisions reflect the university’s commitment to international collaboration and addressing pressing internal challenges. The open admission process, in particular, could significantly impact access to higher education for many aspiring students across the country, highlighting the crucial role of DU in national development.
