NGT Slams Lax Reporting on Mundka Ponds: Revised Surveys Ordered
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on September 11, 2025, expressed strong displeasure over the deficient reports submitted on the condition of ponds in Mundka village. The criticism follows a case filed by Dr. Jeet Singh Yadav, highlighting encroachment and environmental degradation of these vital water bodies.
The initial reports, submitted to the Tribunal, apparently lacked crucial details and failed to accurately reflect the ground reality. This prompted the NGT’s sharp rebuke and a demand for immediate remedial action.
Consequently, the NGT has directed the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) and the West Delhi District Collector to submit revised and comprehensive reports. These reports must meticulously address the shortcomings identified by the Tribunal.
The NGT’s intervention underscores the urgent need for accurate and transparent environmental assessment. The case highlights the critical importance of robust monitoring and effective enforcement of environmental regulations to protect Delhi’s dwindling water resources and prevent further ecological damage. The revised reports are expected to be crucial in determining the future course of action to restore the ponds.
