Mann Slams Centre: Kartarpur Closure Amidst Cricket Matches Highlights Anti-Punjab Bias
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday strongly condemned the closure of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, restricting Sikh pilgrims’ access to Pakistan. He voiced his concern over the timing, particularly in light of ongoing India-Pakistan cricket matches.
Mann highlighted the apparent contradiction: while sporting events proceed, a crucial religious pilgrimage route remains shut. This, he argued, demonstrates a discriminatory approach towards Punjab.
The Chief Minister further escalated his criticism, alleging that the central government’s distribution of flood relief funds to Punjab has been inadequate and unfairly allocated.
He accused the Centre of neglecting Punjab’s needs and displaying a clear anti-Punjab bias in its policies. This dual approach, Mann asserted, is unacceptable and deeply hurtful to the sentiments of Punjab’s people.
The ongoing closure of the Kartarpur corridor and the alleged disparity in flood relief distribution are likely to fuel further political tensions between the state and the central government. The coming weeks will be crucial in observing the Centre’s response and the potential impact on the already strained relationship.
