Cyber-Trap: Dehradun Bust Nets Cambodia-Linked Fraudster, ₹78 Lakh Lost
Kurukshetra Police have made a significant breakthrough in a cyber-fraud case with the arrest of Anikant Bhat in Dehradun on September 15, 2025. Bhat, allegedly trained in Cambodia, was a key member of a sophisticated cybercrime ring.
His modus operandi involved terrifying victims with fake “digital arrest” threats. This tactic proved highly effective, leading to substantial financial losses.
Among the victims, a retired Army official suffered a staggering loss of ₹78.85 lakh. The police operation also recovered a large cache of incriminating evidence.
This included numerous SIM boxes and other devices used to make fraudulent calls. The investigation is ongoing, aiming to unearth the full extent of the network’s operations and apprehend other members.
The arrest serves as a stark reminder of the growing sophistication of cybercrime and the need for heightened public awareness and robust cybersecurity measures. The vulnerability of even experienced individuals, like the retired Army official, highlights the urgent need for better digital literacy and stronger legal frameworks to combat this menace.
